The Workforce Development Initiative (WDI), housed at the EnVision Center, provides DC residents with employment opportunities, occupational training to earn credentials in in-demand industries, and job readiness skills.

Below is what participants may expect when participating in WDI:

Occupational Education & Training

Participants have the opportunity to earn a certification or license in the following:

Participants may enroll in additional courses from the University of the District of Columbia – Workforce Development & Lifelong Learning (UDC-WDLL) at the EnVision Center*

DCHA’s Maintenance Apprenticeship Training Program (ATP)

As a part of WDI, ATP creates opportunities for DCHA Housing Choice Voucher Participants and Public Housing Residents to develop skills to work in the property maintenance industry.

Section 3 of the Housing and Urban Development Act of 1968 (12 U.S.C. 1701u), as amended by Section 915 of the Housing and Community Development Act of 1992. The acts “ensure that employment and other economic opportunities generated by certain HUD financial assistance shall, to the greatest extent feasible, and consistent with existing federal, state, and local laws and regulations, be directed toward low- and very low-income persons, particularly those who are recipients of government assistance for housing, and to business concerns which provide economic opportunities to low- and very low-income persons.”
