The District of Columbia Housing Authority’s (DCHA) redevelopment program is helping to create thriving communities by building and revitalizing affordable and market-rate housing throughout the city. DCHA has formed partnerships with public agencies, the federal government and private investors to develop vital new neighborhoods. With DCHA homes as the centerpiece of the community, new schools, recreation centers, transportation services, and retail and office space soon follow bringing new life to once blighted areas of the city. In the last five years, more than 21 projects have been initiated or completed. Ultimately these development projects will create nearly 5,000 new units of high quality housing and 3000 subsidized rental units, as well as bring first-time home ownership to more than 1200 low- and moderate-income families.
