Parkway Overlook Families Enjoy Food & Fun at DCHA Block Party

Parkway Overlook residents celebrated their community with DC Housing Authority’s Rebuilding Our Communities Block Party on June 28. The day was filled with delicious food, games, and fun activities for families to enjoy.

Attendees socialized with their neighbors, fellow DCHA residents, and DCHA staff and leadership including Executive Director Keith Pettigrew, along with Commissioner Theresa Silla.

The festivities featured live music, caricature drawings, face painting, a moon bounce, a foam party, a gaming station, a balloon release, a guest appearance by Bluey, the beloved character from the hit TV show and more.

Before the festivities began, DCHA staff and volunteers distributed free groceries and household supplies to the residents of the Parkway Overlook apartments. Free haircuts were also available throughout the block party and each child could also take home a free toy.

The Parkway Overlook event is the latest in a series of block parties that DCHA is hosting throughout the summer as part of the Rebuilding Our Communities initiative, which supports public housing residents through family-friendly events that offer direct access to resources and services to support their physical, emotional and social well-being.

More than a dozen service providers participated in the Parkway Overlook Block Party, engaging with DCHA residents and offering a multitude of services, ranging from education and workforce development to presenting job opportunities. Providers included nonprofits, academic institutions, private employers, and DC government agencies all striving to make an impact on the DC community.

DCHA is grateful for the service providers who helped make this event possible:
