DCHA celebrates official start of summer with Rebuilding Our Communities Block Party

Summer is officially here, and DC Housing Authority celebrated with the latest Rebuilding Our Communities Block Party on June 21 at LeDroit Park.

Families from Kelly Miller Apartments and LeDroit Apartments joined the festivities. The fun-filled Saturday including face painting, moon bounces and inflatable slides, water play station, a video game room and live music, plus free food from The Angry Jerk, Big Moe’s Catering, and more. A raffle with prizes awarded every hour also added to the excitement on the hot day.  DCHA STAR Board Commissioner Theresa Silla also joined the fun.

Ahead of the festivities, DCHA staff and volunteers distributed free bags of groceries to the residents of LeDroit Apartments and Kelly Miller Apartments.

Each Rebuilding Our Communities Block Party is an opportunity for DCHA families to connect with their neighbors, DCHA staff including the Office of Public Safety’s officers, and local service providers.

Throughout the summer and fall seasons, DCHA hosts a series of family-centered block parties. The free-to-attend community events are a chance to have fun, while also providing public housing families with direct access to resources that support their physical, social, and emotional well-being.

More than a dozen service providers took part in the June 21 block party. They shared resources for different job opportunities, education and development programs, and additional information to support youth, seniors, and families in the District. Providers include nonprofits, academic institutions, private employers, and DC government agencies.

DCHA is grateful for the service providers who helped make this event possible:
