During the DC Public School spring break this year, DC Housing Authority youth were invited to participate in an indoor rock-climbing event, thanks to a collaboration with Soul Trak Outdoors.
The youth, ages 11 to 15, honed their climbing skills while friends and instructors cheered them on at Movement Crystal City, a climbing gym on Wednesday, April 16 in Arlington, VA.
The cohort of kids spent hours climbing to new heights as they received guidance from climbing instructors, Soul Trak staff, and volunteers on top rope climbing. Top rope climbing is a form of rock climbing where the climber is securely attached to a rope that runs through a fixed anchor at the top of the climbing route and back down to the belayer at the base of the climb. This type of rock climbing is ideal for beginners who are learning the basics or those who are more risk averse.
Coordinated by DCHA’s Office of Resident Services, the event included transportation for the kids to and from the EnVision Center.
