Lincoln Heights families, as well as their neighbors and DC Housing Authority staff, kicked off the summer with the first Rebuilding Our Communities Block Party of 2025 on Saturday, May 24.
The community celebration included music and dancing, courtesy of D.C.’s Own DJ Frank White and live entertainment from the Obsession Band. Free food for the event was made available from Angry Jerk, The Society Restaurant and Lounge, and Big Moe’s Soul Food. A face painter, caricature artist, moon bounces, arcade games and more family-friendly activities made the day extra fun for kids. Each child also got to select a free toy to take home and free haircuts were available.
Councilmember Wendell Felder also joined the Block Party, listening to and spending time with Lincoln Heights residents. Nearly two dozen service providers tabled at the event, providing DCHA families and community members a way to connect directly with resources on education and workforce development programs, job opportunities, and other services available to DC residents.
Ahead of the festivities, DCHA staff and volunteers distributing a free bag of groceries, as well as cleaning and other household supplies, to Lincoln Heights residents.
Each block party is part of DCHA’s Rebuilding Our Communities initiative. The initiative involves DCHA hosting family-centered events for public housing residents that also provide them with direct access to comprehensive, holistic support and resources that address challenges impacting physical, social and emotional well-being.
DCHA is grateful for the service providers who helped make this event possible.
