DCHA Hosts Annual Anti-Bullying Peace Rally

DCHA youth on Oct. 25 gathered to spread awareness about bullying and promote peace across the community as part of the 2nd annual DCHA Anti-Bullying Peace Rally.

The young residents kicked off the rally with a peace walk that looped the Greenleaf baseball field. They carried colorful painted banners and signs sharing hard-hitting facts about bullying in the country and chanted phrases like “be a friend, not a bully.”

The rally included numerous activities for youth and families, such as face painting, table-top games, arts and crafts, and other activity stations. A DJ played music while residents also enjoyed delicious food — including burgers, cookies, cotton candy, fruit, and more refreshments.

The event also included an informative Peace Panel that offered attendees a chance to discuss their own experiences with bullying. Special guests included Yasmin Sulina, Co-Founder and Executive Director of The Hustlers Guild; ShiDonna Lucas, a bullying prevention advocate; and Maureen Bethea-Ashton, an educator and youth advocate. Speakers and participants talked about the impact of bullying and how to prevent it.

Youth also performed choreographed dances and showed off their orange “Stop Bullying” t-shirts in a fashion show. All youth attendees received a t-shirt, a drawstring bag, and water bottles, and there were also three raffles for gift cards.
