DCHA & C3 CARES PROMOTE HYGIENE EDUCATION FOR YOUTH

The D.C. Housing Authority throughout February hosted Hygiene Huddles to promote and encourage healthy habits, which can help prevent illness and reduce stress.

The Office of Resident Services partnered with C3 Cares to host the educational sessions that catered to young residents aged 11–16 years old. The sessions covered lessons on mental health, stress, the impacts of bullying, and physical, oral and sleep hygiene.

These weekly sessions aimed to support youth residents with their personal healthcare routines by discussing best hygiene practices and young people’s everyday stressors. DCHA staff shared resources with the adolescents that offered tips on handwashing, managing body odor, taking care of one’s mental health, and more.

The goal of the Hygiene Huddles is to empower younger residents to learn self-care tools that will help them navigate everyday life. These sessions by DCHA supported participants in gathering more knowledge about how to take care of themselves both physically and mentally.
