Protected Disclosures

All DCHA employees are encouraged to report fraud, waste, abuse of authority, violations of the law, and substantial and specific dangers to public health and safety to their supervisors, the Office of Audit and Compliance, or the Office of General Counsel. This is what is known as a protected disclosure. All D.C. government employees have the right and responsibility to make protected disclosures when they are aware of certain types of official misconduct, and reports can be made anonymously.

Retaliation could include being disciplined, reassigned, demoted, or other kinds of negative job-related consequences because you made a protected disclosure. Whistleblower retaliation is a violation D.C. law, and employees who are retaliated against have the right to bring a Civil Action in D.C. Superior Court within one year of the retaliation. The text of the law is available at: https://code.dccouncil.us/dc/council/code/titles/1/chapters/6/subchapters/XV-A/

If you would like to make a report, or if you feel you have been retaliated against for making a protected disclosure, you should contact the Office of Audit and Compliance or the Office of the General Counsel at disclosure@dchousing.org and 202-918-1965 .

If you would like to report employment discrimination, including sexual harassment, contact a trusted supervisor or the Human Resources Department.

If you have questions or concerns about workplace safety and health, contact your supervisor or DCHA’s Industrial Hygienist at S&H@dchousing.org.
