East Capitol Dwellings is a family property located in both the Southeast and Northeast quadrants of the District of Columbia. This community is a recipient of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Hope VI grant. East Capitol is currently undergoing the relocation of residents and demolition of units. The “New East Capitol” will comprise of low-rise apartment buildings, grand houses, townhouses, and single-family homes. The redevelopment of this community includes commercial/retail space, which will provide employment and business opportunities for the residents involved in this exciting neighborhood transformation. The projected date of completion is Fall 2006.
