Dozens of children went back to school last week fully prepared thanks to the District of Columbia Housing Authority’s Back to School event.

The event, held August 17, featured music, food, face painting, a bounce house, and backpacks stuffed full of school supplies for every child who attended. Super heroes, books, games, and more fun covered the front lawn at 1133 North Capitol Street in Northeast.

In addition, several D.C. agencies and community partners attended in order to educate parents and guardians about services they offer.

Special thanks goes to Amerigroup, La Prima Catering, A Wider Circle, the U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Department of Homeland Security for donating backpacks, food, and water. In addition, the U.S. Coast Guard and Homeland Security donations also were distributed to families in Greenleaf Garden Family and Extensions, the Villager, James Creek, and formerly of Barry Farm.
