Former residents of Parkway Overlook gathered across the street from their old complex at Johnson Middle School for a reunion and cookout recently.

The District of Columbia Housing Authority is in the process of a property-wide renovation of the property in Congress Heights. In an effort to ensure the community remains connected and to give updates to residents, DCHA partnered with development partners MCN/Southway, the Washington Interfaith Network, and A Wider Circle to host the summer reunion on August 4.

“If I can use one word it would be grateful. I’m grateful for the relationship we built with the D.C. Housing Authority. I’m grateful for MCN. It is amazing especially for this community. This relationship is a wonderful thing,” said Rufaro Jenkins, a community leader.

In addition, GRID Alternatives offered information on job training programs, and other community partners gave out information on credit counseling, jobs, and other information. A Wider Circle also held a raffle of household items.
