The Park Morton residents and the surrounding communities were able to dance their heart out to an eclectic mix of soul and calypso music called, SOCA!

The event, held July 14, featured SOCA, a genre of music that originated within a marginalized subculture in Trinidad and Tobago in the early 1970s and developed into a range of styles by the 1980s and in the years following.

In addition, the residents and community were able to enjoy catered Caribbean food by Taste of Jamaica, funnel cake, freshly made smoothies by TAMU, a live DJ, and carnival rides.

While the Resident Council of Park Morton hosted this day of fun, they could not have done it all without the community sponsors: HOU (Housing Opportunities Unlimted), New Communities Initiative, The Grassroot Project, District Bridges, Georgia Avenue Thrive, and the Dance Institute of Washington.
