Two dozen community volunteers removed 30 large bags of trash from the Highland Dwellings neighborhood recently.

The District of Columbia Housing Authority, A Wider Circle, and the Highland Dwellings Resident Council partnered with Alliance of Concerned Men and the Alice Ferguson Foundation to have a community clean up in March.

Any piece of litter—from bottles to chip bags to newspapers—were removed from the street and grounds around the Ferebee Hope Recreation Center over an hour and a half one Saturday.

Many of the youth volunteers earned some service learning hours while they assisted in the clean-up.

Due to the success and support of community groups in the area, organizers plan to hold this event once a month to keep the neighborhood clean. If someone wants to volunteer for the next month’s pick-up, please email Partner@awidercircle.org  or call 202-248-8038.
