The District of Columbia Housing Authority Board of Commissioners chairman welcomes the agency’s new executive director to his first meeting of the board this week.

Chairman Neil Albert introduced Executive Director Tyrone Garrett to the crowd that had gathered on October 11 at the Montana Terrace Community Center.

“He has a really impressive resume and is a recognized leader in the affordable housing area. He also is very entrepreneurially minded,” Albert said. “I think he will bring that entrepreneur’s spirit to the housing authority and its many residents.”

Following applause from the crowd, Garrett thanked the community for welcoming him.

“I’m glad to see all of you coming out. Please make your voices and concerns heard by our staff,” Garrett said.

He told them that he has been meeting with staff and also has plans to tour properties over the next four weeks so he can hear from residents. He also has scheduled meetings with each commissioner on the board.

“We hope to take DCHA upward,” Garrett said. “This is an agency that people look at for best practices and ideas for quality affordable housing. I want to build on that.”
