The District of Columbia Housing Authority’s 2015 Gift of Love Initiative brought some holiday cheer to the campaign’s largest number of children of DCHA customers ever.

The Gift of Love provided gifts for more than 1,000 children, the most in the campaign’s thirteen years.

The initiative encourages DCHA employees and friends from other organizations to provide much-needed gift items for children whose families are under significant economic hardship.

DCHA employees sponsored gifts for 126 children. And a number of community organizations also sponsored gifts for children or contributed financially.  They include the District of Columbia Building Industry Association, RLJ Equity Partners, DCRA, HUD, Answer Title, Take Charge, Inc., Urban Institute, Symantec, Prince Hall Grand Masonic Lodge, A.L. Merton, Inc., Contemporary Family Services, Inc., Everett Law Firm, the Wharf District Master Developer, LLC; AFGE Local #2725 (Miranda Gillis, President), AFGE Local #3721 (Aretha Lyles, President), AFGE National Vice President, District 14 Eric Bun, Sr., Potbelly Sandwich Shop,  Office of Veteran Affairs, and the Metropolitan Police Department.  Howard University also donated books and clothing while WC Smith helped provided gift cards and Christmas goodie bags for HCVP families.

Their gifts were given out by Santa and Mrs. Claus on Dec. 22 at DCHA headquarters.  Children were all smiles as they received items such as bicycles, action figures, dolls, coats and books.

“I am so full of joy. Our goal was to reach 1,000 children this year and we surpassed that. Our staff and community partners helped us reach this goal in the true spirit of the holidays,” said DCHA Executive Director Adrianne Todman.
