The District of Columbia Housing Authority’s Office of Resident Services gave some DCHA customers an early holiday season gift during this year’s Thanksgiving Drive.

Through donations from DCHA employees, ORS collected 9,762 non-perishable items, which made for 600 Thanksgiving bags that were distributed to families at 19 of DCHA’s communities days before Thanksgiving. ORS also provided 285 turkeys to DCHA customers around the District.

Mayor Muriel Bowser, along with Council members LaRuby May, Yvette Alexander, and Brianne Nadeau helped distribute the food at a number of the properties.

The Housing Choice Voucher Program gave another 100 Thanksgiving grocery bags to their customers while DCHA community partner SHARE donated baskets to 20 families who are enrolled in the Family Self Sufficiency Program.

“The ORS team wishes to extend its deep appreciation to the DCHA family for their generous donations of non-perishable items for the 2015 Thanksgiving Drive,” said Sherrill Hampton, ORS director.
