Porsche Williams, a District of Columbia Housing Authority client and military veteran, was one of the highlighted success stories at recent One Year of Progress celebration at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Williams, a formerly homeless veteran and mother of two, is a recipient of one of HUD's VASH vouchers, or Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing vouchers. In May 2015, Williams had fallen on hard times and was not able to make ends meet with her family due to an illness. She lost her home and was having difficulty keeping a job. She reached out for help to Veterans Affairs. The VA and DCHA were able to work together to get her a voucher, which led to her getting a job. Now she is successfully working and supporting her family.

Williams, along with several other individuals who benefitted from HUD programs such as VASH vouchers, home loans, supportive housing, and Native American housing programs told the crowd their personal stories.
