District of Columbia Housing Authority Executive Director Adrianne Todman shared the agency’s success in innovative financing to rehabilitate and rebuild affordable housing with her peers at the National Development Council Academy on May 12.

Todman was a member of the Revitalizing Public Housing in America: New Approaches panel discussion with Anne Fiske Zuniga, Seattle Housing Authority Executive Director; Margaret Donnelly Moran, an affordable preservation and finance consultant with the Cambridge Housing Authority; and Patrick M. Costigan with The Community Builders, Inc.

Each panelist focused on how their agency or company addressed the backlog of necessary rehabilitation and replacement for public housing using fresh approaches and financing tools – including mixed-finance and HUD’s Rental Assistance Demonstration (RAD). This panel investigated how housing authorities and their development partners are implementing innovative approaches to preserve and expand affordable housing options, such as utilizing philanthropists and service providers or changing the way agency’s function.
